Conservative Euro MP David Campbell Bannnerman had opposed the scheme and urged the Council to retain these important parts of London's railway heritage, drawing on experience at Paddington Station.  However, the 20th December Planning Committee approved this plan.  David Campbell Bannerman suggested that one, less attractive, option would be to re-erect these historic parts of the station's fabric at the National Railway Museum, at cost to the developer.
