LOCAL CONSERVATIVES
The parliamentary constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark incorporates the communities of Borough, Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Newington and Walworth.
The area is a vital mix of old and new, encompassing the historical Borough of Southwark opposite the City and site of the Globe Theatre, as well as reconstructred docklands stretching all the way along the river to Surrey Quays and long established communities in the Old Kent Road and Walworth Roads. We are home to a hugely diverse population of residents from across the world and each year attract millions of visitors to the Tate Modern, Imperial War Museum, Borough Market and the river. Lots of young people come to live and study each year in the Borough and many others move here each year to work. Those young people are strongly represented amongst our members.
Bermondsey and Old Southwark has huge potential but also many challenges. BOSCA is determined to help our local community reach its potential and meets its challenges.
CONSERVATIVES WINNING HERE
At the general election in December 2019 we saw a 3.6% swing to our candidate, Andrew Baker, in Bermondsey and Old Southwark. Nationally, the Conservatives took 47 more seats and are on our third term in Government.
BOSCA MEMBERS AND OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
We have several hundred local members, of whom 80% are under the age of 35. Our vitality and commitment has allowed us to mount active campaigns on issues of concern to local people. Key concerns for our members and activists are:
CHALLENGING LABOUR CUTS - We are determined to ensure that budget cuts implemented by Southwark's Labour administration do not damage front line services. Identifiying and dealing with waste and inefficiency rather than reducing essential services are the best ways of managing Southwark's budget.
REDUCING CRIME - Along with our local election candidates we continue to campaign to keep our streets and homes safe. Policing needs to be managed effectively and your concerns about crime and policing are vitally important. If you have concerns about crime in your local area then please let us know by using our contact form.
